Abigail Cox of York Named 2017 Team Captain of Kutztown University Women's Lacrosse Team

2017 Feb 8

Abigail Cox of York, PA was named a 2017 team captain for the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team.

Senior Abby Cox, junior Sarah Gabriele and redshirt-junior Haley Romoser are the three recipients of the honor.

Kutztown will be entering the 2017 season fresh off of its most successful season since the program was reestablished in 2008. The Golden Bears finished with a 7-10 record and notably started the season with five straight wins.

Gabriele will head the offense attack for the Golden Bears this season as she was last year's Team MVP, Coaches Award winner and was named to the All-PSAC Third Team. Gabriele capped her season with a team-leading 49 goals, which was good for the second-most in a season in program history. She also broke the school record with 67 points and 54 draw controls.

Gabriele was also a facilitator for the Maroon and Gold as she was second on the team in assists with 18. Look for Gabriele to push for the school-record in goals and to continue her proficiency offensively.

Cox, who has started in 18 of her 24 appearances over the last two seasons, will look to be the stone wall between the pipes for the Maroon and Gold in her final season as a Golden Bear. She led the team with 77 saves and held a 41.8 save percentage. She also recorded double-digit saves in three of her games, including a 14-save performance in a victory against Bloomsburg last season.

Romoser will look to anchor the backline for the Golden Bears. She started all 17 games for the Golden Bears last season, was tied for fourth on the team with 32 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers.

Kutztown will open its season hosting Chestnut Hill on Saturday, Feb. 25. The game is set to start at 1 p.m.
