Brittany Larkin of Cranberry Township, PA, has been awarded a Gold Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award from Kutztown University. It is the highest honor awarded by the university.

Larkin is a Special Education/Visual Impairment major graduating in May. She received the award for her successfully completed research projects.

Larkin has conducted original research on Cortical Visual Impairment. Last year, she presented her research, titled "Effective Practices for Working with Students Who Have Cortical Visual Impairments," at The National Council for Exceptional Children Conference.

She has served as a student representative with the Pennsylvania Association for Educational and Rehabilitation and the National Division on Visual Impairments. Her research and articles have been published in Visual Impairment and Deaf-Blind Quarterly, an invitation-only publication on visual impairment studies.

Locally, Larkin has done presentations on vision loss for the Lion Club chapter, helped organize a Dine in the Dark event at the Vision Resource Center in Reading and even volunteered to tutor underclassmen in Kutztown University's vision program. She has been named to the Dean's List every semester since 2014.
