Chelsea Johnson Awarded Silver Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award from Kutztown University

2017 Apr 21

Chelsea Johnson of Lititz, PA, has been awarded a Silver Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award from Kutztown University. It is the highest honor awarded by the university.

Johnson graduated in December 2016 as a biology major with a focus in organismal biology and ecology. Johnson received the award for her successfully completed research projects.

Johnson's research examined the physical health of migrating flocks of predatory birds along the Kittatinny Ridge in Pennsylvania. For her research, she developed her own body condition index based on body mass and wing measurements and compare these measurements to over 37 years of data records.

She has presented this research for Hawk Mountain, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Ecological Society of America and both the North American Ornithologist Conference, located in Washington, D.C., and its international conference.

Johnson has been recognized by the Commonwealth of Pa. University Biologists, Beta Beta Beta National Honor Society and the Eagle Hill Institute and has been named to the Dean's List at both Kutztown and Slippery Rock Universities.

In the future, Johnson hopes to continue to study avian ecology and conservation at the graduate level.
