Corinne Manela Named All-Atlantic Region for 2016 Outdoor Season

2016 May 20

Corinne Manela of Philadelphia, PA 19111, was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Atlantic Region honors for the 2016 outdoor season.

On the women's side, Emma Sullivan and Corinne Manela were chosen. On the men's side, Brandon Leacraft, Steve Maine and Brandon Raguz were the honorees.

Sullivan, a senior, finished fourth in the pole vault at the 2016 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships on Saturday with a jump of 11-7 and qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held in Bradenton, Flor. on Thursday, May 26. The school-record holder in the pole vault earned All-Region honors for the sixth time in her career (four outdoor, two indoor) and will look to earn All-America honors for two consecutive seasons after doing so in the indoor season.

Manela closes her senior season as an All-Region selection in the 10,000m. She finished eighth in the event at the PSAC Outdoor Championships and earns the award in outdoor for the second time in her career.

Maine was selected All-Region for both the 5000m and 10,000m. He finished second in the 10,000m and third in the 5,000m at the PSAC Outdoor Championships. During the outdoor season, Maine ran the second-fastest time all-time in program history in both the 10000m (30:31.35) and 5000m (14:47.13) and is the first runner at KU to finish in the top-three at PSACs in both the 5,000m and 10,000m.

Leacraft was selected for the javelin and finished third in the event at the PSAC Outdoor Championships. Leacraft threw the sixth-best mark in KU history earlier in the year with a toss of 200-6 at the 49er Classic in March.

Raguz finished second in the pole vault at the PSAC Outdoor Championships, earning All-PSAC honors. It was a strong finish to a year that saw Raguz finish first at two meets (ESU's Paul Kaiser Classic and All-American Meet), and third at the Penn Relays with a career-best mark of 4.85m (15-11), the eighth-best mark in school history.

While Sullivan and Manela graduated this May, Maine (a sophomore), Raguz (sophomore) and Leacraft (freshman) all return to build on their performances for KU next year.
