Courtney Ueberroth of Stevens Named 2016 Team Captain for Kutztown University Field Hockey

2016 Aug 15

Courtney Ueberroth of Stevens, PA (17578) has been named one of four team captains for the 2016 Kutztown University field hockey team.

Seniors Courtney Ueberroth and Megan Tiwold will be joined by juniors Courtney Konowal and Chardonnay Hope as KU attempts to build off a 2015 campaign that saw the Golden Bears host their first playoff game in school history.

Ueberroth is coming off a season in which she was selected Second Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) at the midfield position. She started all 19 of Kutztown's games and was fifth on the team with four goals and 11 points despite primarily serving in a defensive role. She also ranked second with 27 shots and two defensive saves, as well as fourth with 15 shots on goal.

Tiwold is KU's leading returning scorer as she posted 16 points on seven goals, two of which were game-winners, and two assists in 2015. In addition to starting in all 19 contests, she was third on the team with 17 shots on goal and fourth with 22 shots. Having earned Dean's List honors in all six of her collegiate semesters, she is a three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

Like Ueberroth, Konowal was also an All-PSAC selection as a midfielder in 2015, earning her way on to the Third Team a season after being named to the Second Team as a freshman. She too started all 19 games a year ago, registering eight points on two goals and four assists, the latter of which was good for third on the squad. Also successful in the classroom, she is a four-time Dean's List honoree and two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, and has been recognized by the NFHCA twice as both a member of the National Academic Squad and a Scholar of Distinction.

Hope saw action as a goalkeeper in six contests in 2015, totaling 134 minutes and making four saves for the Golden Bears. Three times she came on to preserve a shutout, including net minding the complete second halves in blanking's of Mercy and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Kutztown field hockey begins its 2016 season with a three-game homestand, opening the year when it welcomes Saint Anselm to Andre Reed Stadium for a noon start on Sept. 3.
