Hannah Amos Named 2015-16 PSAC Scholar-Athlete

Kutztown University student Hannah Amos of Toms River, NJ (08753) was recognized on Wednesday as a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete for the 2015-16 academic year. A school-record 162 KU student-athletes earned the honor.

All 20 of KU's NCAA-sponsored programs donned a PSAC Scholar-Athlete. As a department, KU increased by 17 students from 145 Scholar-Athletes the last two years, the most for the institution at the time.

35 percent of Kutztown's 460 student-athletes earned recognition from the PSAC, an increase of three percent from last year. 120 of the 162 were female student-athletes for KU, while 42 were male. It is the 10th straight year Kutztown has had 100 or more student-athletes on the PSAC Scholar-Athlete squad.

Of the 162, 18 seniors earned their fourth PSAC Scholar-Athlete award, including one five-year honoree.

In order to earn scholar-athlete recognition, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or above.

The PSAC set a new record of scholar-athletes with 2,820 student-athletes. The total marks 40 percent of the student-athlete population. Both of these numbers break the previous record of 2,692 and 38 percent set one year ago. The league has now registered at least a 30 percent rate for eight straight years.

Seton Hill led the conference with 52 percent scholar-athlete rate, while West Chester held a 50 percent rating. For the second straight year, Mercyhurst has the most scholar-athletes with 282, while Seton Hill is second with 256.
