Margariete Malenda Awarded Gold Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award from Kutztown University

Margariete Malenda of Fleetwood, PA, has been awarded a Gold Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award from Kutztown University. It is the highest honor awarded by the university.

Malenda is a geology major minoring in chemistry. She received the award for her successfully completed research projects and outstanding service to the Kutztown University community.

Malenda's road through KU is extraordinary as she has completed five different projects at six locations in the U.S., resulting in seven research presentations at international conferences in Vancouver, San Francisco, Denver, and Baltimore. She has co-authored two full-peer reviewed scientific journal articles with a third currently in the review process.

Malenda is a member of the Physics Society, Geology Club, International Students Organization and a founding member of the Geophysical Society. In addition to her philanthropic service activities, she is currently planning an education outreach program for the Girl Scouts of America. Malenda has been named to the Dean's List every semester of attendance and was named a Dean's Star Scholar in spring of 2016 and was the Kutztown University Foundation Endowment Recipient for Conference Travel in the fall of 2016.

Malenda has received a number of grants throughout her four years, including the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union Scholarship, Pennsylvania Committee of Professional Geologist 1st Place Essay Winner and Kutztown University Undergraduate Research Grant.

Malenda's future goal is finding water resources for poor villages in third world countries.
