Matthew Martoccio Named Kutztown University Senior Athlete of the Year

Matthew Martoccio of Kintnersville, PA, has been named the 2016 Kutztown University Male Senior Athlete of the Year. Martoccio becomes the third consecutive KU wrestler to earn the award. Evan Yenolevich and Ziad Haddad took home the honors in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

A two-time All-American, Martoccio, finished his impressive Golden Bear career with a sixth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA National Championships. He earned All-America status for the second consecutive season, just the fifth wrestler in KU history to do so.

Martoccio helped lead the Golden Bears to a 12-5 overall record this season, including a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships. He led the team with 28 wins for the second straight season, sixth-most in team history. Martoccio is a two-time All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honoree and won the Super Region 1 title at 157 pounds this season.
