Zachary Lawlor Receives Outstanding Student Award from Delaware Valley Geographical Association

Zachary Lawlor of Bethlehem, Pa., has received the Outstanding Student Award from the Delaware Valley Geographical Association (DVGA) at Kutztown University. He is a senior studying applied geography. He is a graduate of Liberty High School.

For his undergraduate thesis, Lawlor mapped violent crime rates in the City of Philadelphia and then correlated the crimes with different neighborhood characteristics.

For his internship, he mapped the storm water network of Emmaus, Pa. He also participates in the Weather Forecasting Contest at Kutztown University and provides periodic radio broadcasts on Kutztown University Radio.

The DVGA is a local chapter of the Association of American Geographers dedicated to promoting geography in the Delaware Valley region. The organization sponsors regular field trips to sites of geographic interest in the area, and spring and fall dinner meetings featuring talks by prominent geographers. Each spring, the DVGA awards one or two high-achieving geography majors from each of the DVGA region schools which includes East Stroudsburg University, Kutztown University, Millersville University, Montgomery County Community College, Rowan University, Temple University, University of Delaware, Villanova University and West Chester University.
