19th Annual Kutztown University Children’s Literature Conference Slated for April 1

Kutztown, PA (03/02/2017) — Kutztown University will host its 19th Annual Children’s Literature Conference on Saturday, April 1, from 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. in the McFarland Student Union building. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. in room 183, Alumni Auditorium. Registration is $70 for adults and $10 for undergraduate students with a valid school ID.

The Children’s Literature Conference is a collaborative initiative involving Kutztown University’s faculty and staff, as well as local teachers and librarians. Each year, the conference strives to present attendees with new ideas on a variety of topics such as the integration of learning; exploring reading and writing through the personal experiences of students; facilitating childhood literacy through the exploration of different genres; and effective use of nonfiction reading materials across all subject areas. Those in attendance at the conference are encouraged to challenge themselves and others to be active and creative in the learning process.

The Kutztown University Children’s Literature Conference seeks to give attendees access to high quality, award-winning authors. This year’s conference will feature presentations from:

Lauren Castillo, a Caldecott Medal-winning author and illustrator from Harrisburg, Pa. Her novel Nana in the City was nominated and selected to win the prestigious Randolph Caldecott Medal in 2015.

Bryan Collier, a Caldecott Honor Book, Coretta Scott King Honor, and Ezra Jack Keats Award-winning illustrator who visits schools across the country teaching and talking about art.

Deborah Hopkinson, a Robert F. Sibert Honor Award and Orbis Pictus Honor Award-winning author from Portland, Ore.

Rosemary Wells, the author of the vastly popular Max & Ruby series.

Autograph sessions with the featured speakers will be held at both 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Qualified attendees will receive five hours of Act 48 credits.
