2018 Fall Commencement Slated for Dec. 15

Kutztown, PA (12/04/2018) — Nearly 500 students will be awarded degrees during Kutztown University's fall commencement on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 9 a.m. in O'Pake Fieldhouse. Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, university president, and Dr. Anne Zayaitz, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, will preside.

Two graduating seniors and one faculty member will speak at the ceremony. Colin A. Quinn will serve as the graduate speaker, Kylin N. Camburn will serve as the undergraduate speaker and Dr. Dina M. Hayduk, professor of sport management and leadership studies, will serve as the faculty speaker.

Kutztown University will provide complete coverage, including live video, photos and more, of its commencement ceremonies. A special thank you to students and professors from the Department of Cinema, Television and Media Production and technician Barry Peterson, for teaming with the Marketing & Communications office to provide Saturday's live coverage. Quinn, of Flourtown, Pa., will graduate with a Master of Education in secondary education curriculum and instruction. He graduated from KU in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in special education.

Quinn currently teaches fifth grade math, language arts, science, social studies and social/emotional learning at Erdenheim Elementary School in Flourtown.

Quinn also volunteers as an umpire for the Flourtown Erdenheim Little League and as football coach for Springfield Township High School, as well as mentors students at Erdenheim Elementary.

Camburn, of Coopersburg, Pa., will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies with a minor in bioethics. She transferred from Lehigh Carbon Community College in 2016. She is president of the Greek organization Lambda Delta Xi Diaternity Alpha Chapter and a member of the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Association Honor Society.

While at KU, Camburn was an undergraduate assistant for the Kutztown University GLBTQ Resource Center and served as a GLAAD campus ambassador. She also served as the secretary for the Buddhist Community of Kutztown, assistant director for the 2018 Vagina Monologues, and as both volunteer coordinator and member of the planning committee for the second annual Kutztown University Gender and Sexual Minorities Conference, where she also presented.

After graduation, she plans to utilize her communication skills in the field of public relations to follow her passion for social and environmental issues.

Hayduk is an associate professor of sport management and leadership studies, having served as an educator for more than 27 years. She teaches health and wellness as part of general education, as well as coordinates the sport management internship program. She is an active member of many campus committees.

A supportive and involved Kutztown resident for more than 25 years, Hayduk walks each semester with and is supervisor of the KUBoK Neighborhood Watch, and has volunteered in different capacities with the local school district. She has been recognized several times for her dedication to students, most recently in 2018 by the Kutztown University College of Business for her outstanding advising, as well as by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) in 2017 for her exceptional service.

Hayduk has published numerous research articles and books, as well as presented her research at various conferences at the local, regional and national levels. She earned a bachelor's degree from Wilkes College, followed by a Master of Education in health education and a Doctor of Education in adult education from the Pennsylvania State University.
