Concert to Preview KU Summer Chamber Music Festival

Kutztown, PA (03/27/2017) — The Kutztown University Department of Music will present an exciting concert preview of the 2017 Kutztown University Chamber Music Festival on Sunday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium.

The concert features KU faculty, pianist Maria Asteriadou and violinist Kurt Nikkanen, joined by guest artist, distinguished cellist Daniel Gaisford.

The program will feature duos for violin and cello by Kodaly and Handel-Halvorsen. In the second half of the performance, all three artists will join forces for a performance of Beethoven's monumental Archduke Trio.

As soloist, Gaisford has appeared with orchestras throughout the United States and Canada; among them the major orchestras of Saint Louis, Seattle, Toronto and Montreal, under the direction of conductors such as Robert Spano, David Zinman and Hermann Michael.

Equally active as a recitalist and chamber musician, Gaisford has performed throughout the U.S. and abroad in cities ranging from New York, San Francisco and Berlin, to Boston and Rome. He has been a featured guest at major festivals throughout the world including New York City's Mostly Mozart Festival, the Chautauqua Festival, the Caramoor Festival, and the Davos Festival in Switzerland.

Asteriadou, Nikkanen and Gaisford all serve on the faculty of the KU Summer Chamber Music Festival. Founded in 2010 by Asteriadou, the Summer Chamber Music Festival features an intensive and comprehensive approach to learning the core chamber music repertoire for strings, piano, percussion and winds.
Talented students from around the world join forces for one week for a fully immersive musical experience, working with the festival's renowned roster of devoted musicians and pedagogues.
