Cressman Named 2019 Kutztown University Employee of the Year

Kutztown, PA (09/13/2019) — Congratulations to Marsha Cressman, custodial worker in Facilities, on being named the 2019 Kutztown University Employee of the Year.

Cressman was named the Employee of the Year during the KU Faculty and Staff Convocation and Celebration held Friday, Aug. 23. Cressman, Employee of the Month for January 2019, was 1-of-12 finalists for the annual award.

Assistant director of Housing Custodial Services Tyrone Hill, who previously nominated Cressman for Employee of the Month, recounted an experience where Cressman, "soared above all expectations and utilized training beyond what we typically provide for our custodians."

On Jan. 24, 2019, Cressman was attending to her daily assignment in Johnson Hall when she saw a student running down the hall with their hands in the air. Cressman immediately stopped what she was doing to attend to the student. She noticed the student could not speak, nor could they breathe through their mouth. Without hesitation, Cressman walked behind the student and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

Cressman has been with the university since March 2006.

As Employee of the Year, Cressman received a monogrammed JanSport Kutztown University backpack, a $300 monetary award sponsored by President Kenneth S. Hawkinson, an engraved glass and marble award and reserved parking for one year in his preferred parking spot.

Cressman is the third KU Employee of the Year honoree, following Sharon Young from Information Technology in 2017, and Tim Flannery from Intercollegiate Athletics in 2018.
