Crider Recipient of Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
Kutztown, PA (09/13/2017) — Dr. Duane A. Crider, professor, Department of Sport Management and Leadership Studies, has been awarded the Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberger Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award, given annually, is presented to one faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding teaching skills and service to Kutztown University. The award was presented at the Faculty and Staff Convocation and Celebration held earlier this month.
Crider teaches courses in administrative, sport, fitness, recreation, leisure and other courses. He incorporates Entrepreneurship in Personal Fitness Training, High Impact Practice in Health and Wellness Journaling for Behavior Change in the Health and Wellness classroom, and Video Commercial Development to Enhance Sales and Interviewing Skills in Leisure and Sports Studies.
Crider is an associate editor for two journals, Applied Recreational Research and Programming Annual and Applied Research in Coaching and Athletics Annual. At KU, he holds positions as the coordinator and faculty advisor for the Entrepreneurial Leadership Center, chairperson for the Fitness Administration Committee and chairs the University Tenure Committee.
He is also on the board of directors for the Hamburg Area School District and conducts emergency response instruction for the American Red Cross.
In addition to numerous journal articles, Crider is the author of two published books, Stretch Your Mind and Body: Tai Chi as an Adaptive Activity & Tai Chi: In the Classroom and Beyond: Personal Defense for Health and Wellness.
His professional certifications encompass, Personal Fitness Training, Fourth Degree Black Belt and certified in Tai Chi. He was invited to present as the keynote speaker for the Keystone State Reading Association 42nd Annual Conference, where he discussed, "Making a Difference in Your Life; Taking Care of Ourselves and Serving Others."
Prior to KU Crider taught at The Pennsylvania State University and he currently teaches online in the Coaching, Sport, Recreation and Fitness Graduate Program for Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas. He has been with KU for 21 years of his 38-year career.
Crider holds a bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctorate from The Pennsylvania State University.
