Edwin Landrock Named KU Employee of the Month for December 2018
Kutztown, PA (03/27/2019) — Congratulations to Edwin Landrock, digital technology specialist in information technology, on being named KU Employee of the Month for December 2018.
Landrock's nomination from communication design professor Karen Kresge reads:
"I have always found Ed to be reliable, professional and personable. He always puts the needs of the students first and is very dedicated to the success of our students. I have always been impressed by the speed in which he responds (usually when I am in crisis mode in the middle of class when some piece of equipment isn't behaving). It is obvious that he cares not only for the students, but also for the faculty and for our department as a whole. Recently, I have had several reports from students about how he has served them in the equipment cage and helped them solve technical problems. He is also an integral part of the Communication Design Print Lab, servicing our printers and equipment.
Recently, Ed's actions really made it clear to me just how special he is. I was teaching a graduate class in Sharadin during our "journey week," the week before regular classes begin. Since the class was small, I decided to meet with them in our third-floor conference room because it was more conducive to conversation and critique. I went in early that day to try to set up the little-used projector for the student's presentations. I set everything up, but try as I might, I just couldn't get the sound or the internet to work correctly. I sent Ed an e-mail at 11:30 a.m., in a panic, because my class started at noon. At the same time, our department secretary, Kathy Traylor, called him on the phone. He answered Kathy and said he was going to lunch, but would be there right afterward. I was resigned to meeting in the large, uncomfortable classroom, and began to pack up. Just then, Ed showed up. He put off his lunch to help me. He told me that when he saw that my class met at noon, he wanted to be sure I was up and running before it started. I was so grateful! He figured out in no time that I needed some cables to make it work. He found one of the cables in another classroom, but when we couldn't find the necessary sound cable, he said he had the cord I needed in his Jeep! He used it to listen to his iPod while driving. Despite my reluctance to use his own personal equipment, he ran out to his Jeep and in a short time, he appeared with the cable, hooked up the sound and I was ready to go! By noon, I was all set up and my class went on without a hitch. He let me use the cable for the rest of the week, and the class was a great success. The students commented about how comfortable the space was, and how being able to meet in the conference room made it more professional. We couldn't have done it without Ed.
This world needs more people who are as knowledgeable, kind and dedicated as Ed Landrock. He is an asset to the university who should be acknowledged and celebrated. Thank you for considering him as an Employee of the Month."
