Faculty Artist Series to Feature Justeson, Immel
Kutztown, PA (03/07/2017) — KU Department of Music faculty members Dr. Jeremy Justeson, saxophone, and Dr. Daniel Immel, piano, will present a Faculty Artist Series concert on Friday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Georgian Room of Old Main. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will feature pieces by Robert Muczynski, David Osbon, Frederic Chopin, Joan Tower and John Williams. The duo will be joined by Dr. Michelle Kiec, clarinet, for Gregory Wannamaker’s “Ragahoro Breadkown.”
A native of San Diego, Justeson holds degrees from California State University, Fullerton and Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. He earned a doctoral degree from The University of Texas at Austin.
Justeson currently serves as the department chair and professor of saxophone at Kutztown University. He has appeared in such venues as Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall, the Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C. Justeson's two CDs, Juggernaut and Pimpin', feature the music of American composers.
Immel is an associate professor of music at KU where he teaches piano. He holds degrees from Boise State University, Indiana University and the University of Texas at Austin. He holds an additional diploma from the American Conservatory, Fontainebleau, France.
He has performed in the United States, Europe, Canada and Russia. In 2015, he was invited to give a solo recital at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, Hungary. He was a finalist in the 16th annual Vienna International Music Competition and was also a 2nd prize winner in the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition in New York.
Michelle Kiec, associate dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at KU, balances a career as a clarinetist and administrator. She has performed with the Harrisburg Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Opera Lancaster, Aspen Music Festival and Breckenridge Music Festival. She has degrees from the Peabody Conservatory of Music of The Johns Hopkins University and the State University of New York at Buffalo.
