Frederick Douglass Institute to Host KU's Dr. Pabon on Oct. 10 for Fall Discussion Series

The Frederick Douglass Institute at Kutztown University will host its Fall Discussion Series this Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at the McFarland Student Union Building Room 250.

Kutztown, PA (10/09/2018) — The Frederick Douglass Institute at Kutztown University will host its Fall Discussion Series this Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at the McFarland Student Union Building Room 250. Dr. Amber Jean-Marie Pabon, KU assistant professor in the College of Education, will lead the discussion titled, "The Urgency of Now: Recruiting and Retaining Teachers of Color in U.S. Public Education". The event is free and open to the public.

In this lecture, Dr. Pabon will discuss her research on the current state of diversity among the U.S. teacher labor force, the challenges to diversifying the teaching profession and the promise of best policies and practices in teacher education.

The Frederick Douglass Institute is a collaborative effort of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to promote multiculturalism. The Institute encourages development of equality and diversity among faculty, staff and students through scholarships, research, forums, exhibits, conferences and visiting scholars. It encourages scholarship and facilitates the exchange of ideas around issues of cultural diversity and social equality among members of the campus community. It specifically promotes activities such as discussions, forums, conferences, fellowship programs and exhibits in order to increase awareness of multicultural issues and promote racial harmony.
