Gordon B. Peters Chamber Music Library for Marimba Ensemble Available at Kutztown University
Kutztown, PA (01/04/2018) — The Center for Mallet Percussion Research at Kutztown University has announced the release of the Gordon B. Peters Chamber Music Library for Marimba Ensemble. The library of music for percussionists promotes the subtleties of musicianship (without a conductor, one player per part) and teaches musicians to listen to each other.
Peters' transcriptions are sourced from symphony orchestra, band, opera, ballet, piano and string chamber music. The purpose of this library is to provide a chamber music experience akin to other families of instruments. All of the compositions are of high musical quality, very "listenable" and fun to play.
That catalog represents nearly 200 titles that Gordon Peters has arranged with new titles being added to the collection. The works are modestly priced according to duration and difficulty with the intent being to reach students.
All transcriptions have been converted to high-quality digital files, which will be forwarded upon completion of an order and payment through the on-line store at www.kutztown.edu/cmpr.
Peters, an orchestra player, conductor, teacher, administrator, author and composer, served as principal percussionist and associate principal timpanist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1959 to 2001 and was both conductor and administrator of its training orchestra from 1966 to 1987.
Peters served as the first national president of the Percussive Arts Society from 1964 to 1967 and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2002.
