KU Council of Trustees Approves May Graduates

Kutztown, PA (04/13/2017) — The Kutztown University Council of Trustees approved the candidates for degree in preparation for 2017 Spring Commencement on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13.

The action was one of 11 approved by the Council at its April board meeting Thursday afternoon. Three ceremonies will be held for KU's Spring Commencement, which will take place at O'Pake Field House. The commencement schedule will change the year, as the graduate ceremony will be held Friday, May 12 at 5 p.m. The Saturday morning undergraduate ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and will include the College of Liberal Arts and Science and College of Education. The Saturday afternoon undergraduate ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. and will include the College of Business and College of Visual and Performing Arts. More than 1,100 students will be receiving bachelor's degrees, and 132 master's degrees will be awarded.

The Council also approved the awarding of a posthumous degree next month to Ryan Dorfman, who passed away in November.

In other business, the KU Council of Trustees:

*Approved new internship agreements for KU students in the listed majors with: Aaron's Acres, special education; De LaSalle Vocational School, social work; Jenkinson'sAquarium, Biological Sciences; The ReDCo Group, psychology; Silliker Inc., dba Merieux NutriSciences,biological sciences; United States Marshals Services,criminal justice; Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, geography.

*Approved a College of Education Student Teaching Affiliation Agreement with Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21.

*Approved the KU Academic Excellence Scholarship Proposal, which provides $1,500 or half tuition ($3,619 for 2016-17) to prospective students in accordance with an initiative designed to recruit high-achieving students, improve student retention, and to reduce barriers for students who have significant financial challenges.

*Approved the agreement of Academic Cooperation with American Honors to promote and enhance transfer opportunities for community college students.

*Approved consent agenda items consisting of select purchases and contracts under $100,000, and select purchases and contracts $100,000 and over.

*Approved the 2017-18 Auxiliary Fees and Budgets.

*Approved a $13.2 million budget for the capitol project to renovate Rothermel Hall. Construction will begin in August of 2017 and will continue through July of 2018.

*Approved miscellaneous fees set by the university to recover costs associated with the provision of various services, materials, or activities in accordance with Board of Governor's policy 1989-05.

The KU Council of Trustees next public board meeting is scheduled for June 15, 2017, at 3 p.m. in room 250 of the McFarland Student Union Building.
