Kutztown University and Luzerne County Community College Sign Dual Admission Agreement
Nanticoke, PA (11/07/2018) — Kutztown University of Pennsylvania (KU) President Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson signed a dual admission agreement with Luzerne County Community College (Luzerne CCC) President Thomas P. Leary on Wednesday, Nov. 7, to facilitate the transfer and accept students of Luzerne CCC to KU as specified by KU's general transfer policy and/or by the Pennsylvania Transfer and Articulation Oversight Committee (TAOC) legislation.
The first half of the agreement will allow Luzerne CCC students who submit a "Letter of Intent" to enter KU before the completion of 30 transferable credit hours and guarantee admission into a bachelor's degree program with third year (junior) status at KU.
The second half of the agreement will allow full-time students admitted with third year (junior) status to KU to complete a bachelor's degree in a parallel program at KU within four regular semesters provided they complete the appropriate associate degree program at Luzerne CCC and complete and appropriately sequence their remaining course work at KU. Luzerne CCC transfer students will be given the same access to particular programs as native KU students.
In addition, KU will accept the general education requirements embedded in the Luzerne CCC Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees and apply these requirements in their entirety towards KU's general education requirements. This agreement applies to all Luzerne CCC A.A. and A.S. graduates and is limited to students who participate in the agreement. Luzerne CCC students will also be eligible for various academic scholarships at KU that may be renewed up to four semesters and are contingent upon their graduating GPA.
"We are honored to enter this agreement with such a distinguished partner as Luzerne County Community College," Dr. Hawkinson said. "We both share a common mission in educating students, and we look forward to doing all that we can to make it as easy as possible for Luzerne students to earn a bachelor's degree at KU."
In addition to its main location in Nanticoke, Luzerne County Community College also has locations in Berwick, Hazleton, Kulpmont, Pittston, Scranton, Shamokin and Wilkes-Barre, and serves more than 5,300 students a year. Luzerne CCC offers a wide variety of programs for students including 73 occupational programs, which are comprised of degree, certificate, and diploma programs; 25 liberal arts and transfer programs; 10 credit-free career training programs; and hundreds of conferences, seminars, workshops, and business and industry customized training both on-campus and throughout the community.
"We are excited to have Luzerne County Community College join us as our seventh community college partner," said Dr. Anne Zayaitz, KU provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. "This agreement will provide outstanding additional opportunities for Luzerne County Community College students at Kutztown University, and we look forward to welcoming many of them to our campus in the near future."
Final approval of Wednesday's agreement will occur at KU's next Council of Trustees meeting on Thursday, Dec. 6.
