Kutztown University Approved to Award CFP Board Registered Undergraduate Program in Financial Planning

Kutztown, PA (05/10/2017) — Kutztown University (KU) has registered with and been approved by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP Board) to provide a new financial planning undergraduate degree program.

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree program in finance in the personal financial planning track at KU is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

An independent certifying organization, CFP Board owns the CFP® and Certified Financial PlannerTM certification marks, which it awards to individuals who meet its education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements. Students completing the financial planning program at KU will have met the education requirement for CFP® Certification Examination administered by CFP Board.

"CFP Board is pleased to approve the program at Kutztown University as a CFP Board Registered Program," said Blaine Aikin, CFP®, chair, CFP Board's Board of Directors. "As student interest in financial planning as a career continues to grow, we anticipate that Kutztown's program will contribute significantly to the number of qualified candidates seeking to attain the CFP® certification, the standard of excellence for competent and ethical financial planning."

"According to Joseph Maugeri, managing director of corporate relations for the CFP Board of Standards, there are now more CFP professionals over the age of 70 than under the age of 30," said Dr. Jonathan Kramer CFP®, professor of finance and assistant chair, KU Department of Business Administration. "This means that there are abundant opportunities for graduates of CFP Board Registered programs like the one at Kutztown University."

"There are a lot of lucrative opportunities for young people in the financial planning profession, but many of them leave the profession because of the difficulty establishing credibility with older, high net worth clients," he added. "Having the CFP® certification helps young people succeed in the profession because it shows that they have the broad educational training and experience necessary to assist clients with complex planning questions."

Kramer and Dr. John Walker, professor, KU Department of Business Administration, were instrumental in attaining CFP Board approval for the program.

Today, CFP Board partners with more than 340 programs at 240 institutions. CFP Board-Registered Programs are financial planning education programs at the college or university level that meet specific criteria for educating individuals who wish to fulfill the education component for obtaining CFP® certification.

The mission of CFP Board is to benefit the public by granting the CFP® certification and upholding it as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning. CFP Board owns the certification marks CFP®, Certified Financial PlannerTM, CFP® (with plaque design) and CFP® (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete initial and ongoing certification requirements. CFP Board currently authorizes more than 76,000 individuals to use these marks in the United States. For more about CFP Board, visit www.CFP.net.
