Kutztown University College of Education to Sign Professional Development Agreement with Four Berks School Districts

Kutztown, PA (05/09/2017) — The Kutztown University College of Education will sign an agreement with four Berks County school districts on Thursday, May 11, at 9 a.m. in room 250 of the McFarland Student Union. The three-year agreement will create a Professional Development School Program at KU to enhance teaching and learning for PK-12 students.

KU and the districts will collaborate on research-based initiatives that will enable KU teacher candidates and interns from related programs, along with school district educators, to better understand and to improve practices related to teaching, learning and schooling.

The agreement will have six goals:

Enhance the learning and educational opportunities of all PK-12 students.

Enrich KU educator preparation programs through transformative school-based learning experiences.

Create professional learning opportunities for school district and university faculty, administration and staff.

Engage in a shared commitment to reflective and innovative practices in PK-12 educational settings and KU educator preparation programs.

Conduct and disseminate research to inform educational policy and practice at the PK-12 and university levels.

Establish opportunities for cohort participants to engage in ongoing reflection and collaboration.

Participating in the May 11 event will be Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson, president, Kutztown University, and Dr. Kenneth Teitelbaum, dean, KU College of Education. Also participating will be:
