Kutztown University Names Krista Evans New Director of Admissions
Kutztown, PA (03/25/2019) — Krista D. Evans has been appointed the new director of Admissions at Kutztown University. Evans comes to KU from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, where she has worked for nearly 20 years. She will begin her tenure at KU in May.
Evans has more than 21 years of experience in admissions, serving in various roles at Lehigh for nearly 20 years, including the position of interim director from 2016-2018. She began her career as an intern in the Penn State University Admissions Office. She then became an admissions counselor at Cedar Crest College in 1998.
Evans embarked on what would become a long, successful tenure at Lehigh in 1999, where she first became the assistant director of admissions. Evans then served as associate director and senior associate director before becoming the interim director. As interim director, Evans oversaw direction of the college visit experience, communications, marketing and publications. She also designed a new admissions rubric for the class of 2022, directed recruitment for 13 admissions counselors, and implemented strategies for primary, secondary, tertiary and international markets, among various other responsibilities.
"We are excited to have someone with Krista's expertise join us," said Dr. Warren Hilton, vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at KU. "Her experience will assist us and build on our recent enrollment success."
Evans currently serves as Lehigh's senior associate director of Admissions, directing all facets of the admissions visit team and welcoming more than 35,000 visitors to campus annually. She manages all on-campus recruitment and matriculation programs such as Junior and Senior Open Houses, Special Group Visits and Admitted Student Days. She works in coordination with deans, associate deans, faculty and staff across four colleges to execute effective programs.
"During my visit to campus, I met with President Hawkinson, Dr. Hilton and the Admissions staff, and was incredibly impressed at their commitment to community. I know I'm joining a family of dedicated admissions professionals, many of whom are proud alumni," Evans said. "I look forward to contributing my knowledge and skills to advance Kutztown's mission and am grateful for the opportunity to work in such a vibrant, diverse and collaborative environment."
Evans has been a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) since 1999, as well as a member of the Pennsylvania Association for College Admissions Counseling (PACAC) since 2005. She has attended the majority of annual conferences for both organizations. A regular presenter at PACAC, Evans recently presented "Preventing Counselor Burnout" at the NACAC 2017 conference. She currently serves on the PACAC Professional Development Committee and is a Summer Institute faculty member. From 2015 to 2018, she served on PACAC's executive committee as an at-large delegate.
Evans holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, where she graduated with distinction and minored in business. She earned a master's degree in counseling psychology and a certification in secondary school counseling from Lehigh University.
