Kutztown University to Accept $500,000 Grant for Scholarship Opportunities

Kutztown, PA (10/25/2017) — The Kutztown University Foundation and Kutztown University will accept a $500,000 donation from the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (Snider Hockey) and the Give Something Back Foundation (Give Back) on Monday, Oct. 30, at 12 p.m. in the President's Residence. Presenting the donation will be Scott Tharp, president and chief executive officer, Snider Hockey and Melissa Helmbrecht, executive director, Give Back.

Working through their Goals and Assists partnership, Snider Hockey and Give Back will fund scholarships for 25 Goals and Assists Scholars to attend Kutztown University. Goals and Assists Scholars who are eligible for federal Pell and PHEAA state grants can attend KU debt free for four years. For Pell/PHEAA state grant eligible students, Kutztown University will cover the gap between tuition, fees, room and board and federal and state grant aid and the Goals and Assist Scholarship. Goals and Assists Scholars will be required to complete the Goals and Assists Program and meet the admissions requirements for the university.

The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation was created by Philadelphia Flyers Chairman, Ed Snider, in 2005 as his personal commitment to teach children important life lessons. Using the sport of hockey, the mission of Snider Hockey is to build lives and unite communities, helping educate young people to succeed in the game of life. Snider Hockey programs are provided at no cost and are focused on underserved boys and girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity to play, with an emphasis on character development, life skills, fitness, nutrition and academics.

Give Back provides scholarships for students who are academically driven and face financial challenges and adversity. Many live below the poverty line and are first-generation college students. Give Back selects scholarship recipients as early as ninth grade in order to prepare them for college.

Founded in 1983, the Kutztown University Foundation seeks to raise funds to assist in developing and increasing educational opportunities for the students, faculty and staff at Kutztown University. Kutztown University of Pennsylvania for its students, faculty, alumni and the general public.

The President's Residence is located on Kutztown Road, to the east of Schaeffer Auditorium, on the campus of Kutztown University.
