Kutztown University to Host an Evening with Kay Haring

Kutztown, PA (10/17/2017) — Kay Haring, sister of Kutztown-born-and-raised artist Keith Haring, will host a lecture and book signing on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 5:30 p.m., in room 223 of the McFarland Student Union Building at Kutztown University. The event is free and open to the public.

Kay Haring's professional career has been a blend of the for-profit and non-profit realms, including management roles with a community college foundation, and fundraising professional for Planned Parenthood. Both are previous recipients of the award. She has held many board positions for a wide variety of non-profits over the last 20 years, including Lehigh Valley Arts Council, Berks Arts Council, Reading Musical Foundation, AAA Reading/Berks and Planned Parenthood of Hawaii.

Her new book, "Keith Haring: The Boy Who Just Kept Drawing," seeks to investigate an aspect of Keith's life not extensively covered: his childhood.

"I wrote this story to answer the question, "What was Keith like as a kid?" the answer; "HE WAS ALWAYS DRAWING!" says Haring on a section of her website.

Haring's talk will map Keith's journey from Kutztown, Pa., as a student, throughout his astronomical rise to the top of the art world.

Afterwards, Haring will sign copies of her book. Book proceeds will benefit Kutztown University's GLBTQ Resource Center.
