Kutztown University to Mark National Coming Out Week with Speaker Aneesah Smith

Kutztown, PA (10/06/2017) — Kutztown University will celebrate National Coming Out Week with social justice educator Aneesah Smith on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in room 183 of the McFarland Student Union. A workshop for student leaders will follow. The program is free and open to the public.

Smith, a recognized speaker and educator within the LGBTQ+ community, will present "Now is Our Time: Creating Change across Difference." This talk will challenge attendees to critically self-reflect on our privilege and ally behaviors and to acknowledge the part each person plays in improving campus climate and making sustainable change.

Smith, a gay, Christian, woman of color, works with LGBTQ+ students to cultivate and engage campus constituents. She holds both a bachelor's and master's degree from West Chester University and spent more than 10 years working in student affairs.
