New Dean to Head Kutztown University College of Education

Kutztown, PA (12/15/2017) — KUTZTOWN, Pa., Dec. 15 - Dr. John Ward has been named dean of the College of Education at Kutztown University. He was appointed interim dean at KU in August. Ward comes to KU from Millersville University where he served as the interim associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services for the past two years.

"Dr. Ward is an exceptional leader and his skills as an educator will augment the talent and dedication of the faculty and students in the College of Education," said Dr. Anne Zayaitz, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at KU.

Ward began his career as an assistant professor at Millersville in 1998 after teaching for five years in the Detroit Public School District. He was promoted to associate professor in 2006 and then chair of the Educational Foundations Department in 2007.

He is on the board of directors of the Pa. Association of Colleges of Teacher Education and regularly serves on site visit teams with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.

"I find joy in working with faculty, staff, students, and school partners to advance professional education," said Ward. "I am very excited to now be a regular member of the KU community."

Ward holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in special education from the University of Detroit. He earned doctorate in education from the University of Memphis.

Over the course of 150 years, the College of Education has garnered an outstanding national and state reputation for its preparation of educators and related professionals and for its many other contributions to relevant areas of study and practice. The college strives to blend a strong knowledge base and understanding of human development and grounding in pedagogy with frequent and continuous field experiences.

The college has an enrollment of nearly 800 students.
