Rauch Named Associate Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Kutztown University

Kutztown, PA (05/11/2017) — Dr. Karen L. Rauch has been named associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Rauch, who has served as interim associate dean since July 2015, has been with the university since 2001 and she served as chair of the Department of Modern Language Studies from 2010-2014.

In her new position, Rauch will be responsible for coordinating course schedules and faculty workloads for 14 departments, overseeing assessment for all departments in the college, awarding and tracking all college scholarships, advocating for students and offering academic support services.

"I am honored and excited to serve the students and faculty of Kutztown University through my role as associate dean," said Rauch. "In today's world, the abilities gained through a holistic education that is rooted in the humanities and sciences--such as written and oral communication skills, critical thinking, and the mental agility to consider multiple and diverse perspectives--are more relevant than ever before. I am proud to say that who I am as an individual was honed in that theory of education, and I intend to continue promoting the liberal arts and sciences through my advocacy and leadership so that our students can learn not only how to work well, but also how to live well."

Rauch has been published multiple times including her 2016 translation of Roberto Forns Broggi's Knots like Stars: The ABCs of the Ecological Imagination of Our Americas.

"I am excited to have Dr. Karen Rauch join the Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean's Office," said Dr. David Beougher, dean, KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. "In her two years as the interim dean, she has proven instrumental in developing the College's advancement board, program development, assessment, and international agreements creating opportunities for our students.

"She brings significant experience as a faculty member and department chair to the office, and has worked tirelessly on behalf of students and faculty," he added. "I look forward to her continued contribution to the College and University communities."

Prior to KU, Rauch served as department chair and head of the Division of Arts and Humanities at Alvernia University, Reading, Pa.

Rauch earned her bachelor's degree from DeSales University, Center Valley, Pa., a master's degree from Duke University, Durham, N.C., and a doctorate from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Liberal Arts and Sciences is the largest of the four colleges at Kutztown University. Its 14 academic departments offer courses based in the rich liberal arts heritage of higher education.
