Share the Care Initiative Provides Care Packages for Former Foster Students

Kutztown, PA (12/05/2017) — Kutztown University has joined ChildPromise, Inc., Philadelphia, in an effort to provide care packages to college students who have aged out of the foster care system.

Many of the more than 45 KU students from the foster care system desire the support a parent would normally provide. In collaboration with ChildPromise, faculty, staff and community members are invited to 'Share the Care' and provide a care package to a KU student from the foster care system. A care package can consist of among other things non-perishable foods, notes of encouragement, towels/wash clothes, as well as toiletries such as toothpaste, deodorant, etc.

Care packages can also be obtained by making a donation to ChildPromise, which will send a package to a student.

Students who receive care packages will remain anonymous.

Kutztown University and ChildPromise, Inc., recently entered into a four-year agreement to create a program to assist young adults who age out of the foster care system. It provides college access programs, such as college prep and financial literacy workshops for high school students in the foster care system and also retention programs for KU students transitioning from the foster care system.

For more information or to obtain a care package visit www.sharethecare.net.
