Ward Named Interim Dean of the College of Education at Kutztown University

Kutztown, PA (08/15/2017) — Dr. John Ward has been named interim dean of the College of Education at Kutztown University effective August 7. Ward comes to KU from Millersville University where he served as the interim associate dean of the College of Education and Human Services for the past two years.

"Dr. Ward will be an invaluable resource to Kutztown University as we take on the search for a new dean," said Dr. Anne Zayaitz, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at KU. "His extensive experience both as an administrator and in the classroom will serve KU well."

Ward began his career as an assistant professor at Millersville in 1998 after teaching for five years in the Detroit Public Schools Community District. He was promoted to associate professor in 2006 and then chair of the Educational Foundations Department in 2007.

He is on the board of directors of the Pa. Association of Colleges of Teacher Education and serves on assessment teams with the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.

"I am excited to join Kutztown University with its long history of educator preparation and to partner with PK-12 schools to improve the teaching and learning for PK-12 students," said Ward. "My goal is to support our programs and help our education students learn best practice skills combined with an appreciation for and understanding of their PreK-12 students."

Ward holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Michigan and a master's degree in special education from the University of Detroit. He earned doctorate in education from the University of Memphis.

Kutztown University is currently conducting a nationwide search for a permanent dean.
