Pair of KU Baseball Sophomores collect 2025 All-PSAC East Honors

Two sophomores on the Kutztown University baseball team were recognized on the 2025 All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Second Team, as outfielder Bo Barthol (Breinigsville, Pa./Parkland) and designated hitter Jared Ferguson (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) each garnered the honors voted on by the head coaches. Barthol was a focal point of the offense in nearly every game this season, batting leadoff in all 47 games for the Golden Bears while hitting .354, the team's best mark among qualified hitters. His numbers rivaled the conference's best hitters, as the Breinigsville, Pa., native tallied 58 hits (7th in the PSAC) and 16 doubles (T-4th) in just his second season with the squad. Once on base, he was immediately looking to advance, stealing a team-high 22 bases that ranked fifth in the conference. Among the conference's designated hitters, Ferguson performed as well as the best of them. His .347 batting average was second among qualified hitters on the team, while he hit a team-best three home runs and drove in 33 RBIs to play a pivotal role in the team's offense in his first year with the team after transferring from Division III Moravian University. It is the first All-Conference honor for either player, while it marks the fifth straight season that at least one Golden Bear earned recognition from the PSAC. Head coach Eric Folmar has seen multiple All-PSAC honorees in half of his six seasons leading the Golden Bears, with 2021 and 2023 being the other such seasons. The Golden Bears concluded 2025 with high hopes for next season, as Barthol and Ferguson are both slated to return atop a young supporting cast that looks to take the next step forward as they set their eyes on the PSAC Championships.

Women's Bowling's Sromovski All-American, Brenneman All-Rookie after Historic KU Season

The National Tenpin Coaches Association announced its annual award winners for the 2024-25 NCAA bowling season, where Kutztown University senior Chloe Sromovski (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R. Memorial) was named an All-America Honorable Mention honoree and freshman Kamryn Brenneman (York, Pa./Central York) earned a spot on the Second-Team All-Rookie squad. Sromovski, who was unanimously named the East Coast Conference's Bowler of the Year, added her first national recognition to an already loaded resume as one of the best KU bowlers in program history. The senior bowled 983 frames in 2024-25, averaging 20.35 pins per frame on an 84.5 percent fill rate. She struck on over 50 percent of her attempts on the year while converting 70 percent of her traditional spare attempts. The fourth-year bowler showed to be a reliable performer in the 10th frame, bowling an 86 percent fill rate and a 52.6 percent strike clip in the anchor role. Sromovski found her way into the top 50 of the NTCA's Player Composite Performance Index (PCPI), as she was statistically the third-best kegler among those on teams not recognized in the top 15 of the national polls. Brenneman emerged as one of the best first-year bowlers in the country in her setup role alongside Sromovski, bowling 90 percent of the team's frames in her first campaign with the Golden Bears while earning the conference's Rookie of the Year honor in unanimous fashion. She rolled a team-best 83.7 percent baker fill percentage and 88.7 single pins spare percentage while holding the conference's second-best overall scoring average (19.74 pins) behind Sromovski. The York, Pa., native's performance throughout the season earned her six ECC Rookie of the Week honors, a sign of continued success on the horizon for the Golden Bears. Sromovski's recognition is the seventh All-America Honorable Mention in program history but first since Deanna DiRado in 2014. She is the sixth Golden Bear bowler to be nationally recognized with an All-America honor by the NTCA, a list that includes three-time honoree Kayla Jones (2009, 2011, 2012) and two-time honoree Brooke Bower (2013 and 2014). Brenneman's first-year bowler honor is the first of its kind for the Kutztown bowling team, but she becomes the third rookie to earn a freshman recognition in program history to go along with back-to-back Division II Rookie of the Year honors in 2008 (Kayla Stamm) and 2009 (Kayla Jones). Sromovski and Brenneman led the Golden Bears (64-45 overall) to their first East Coast Conference Championship crown while sweeping the conference's individual honors alongside fifth-year head coach Angela Reynolds. KU reached their second-ever NCAA postseason and defeated Fayetteville State on the national stage for their first victory on that level since 2011.

Women's Bowling Sweeps ECC Major Awards; Places Four on All-Conference Team

Chloe Sromovski was named Bowler of the Year, Kamryn Brenneman Rookie of the Year and Angela Reynolds Coach of the Year, Friday, March 21, as the Kutztown University women's bowling team swept the East Coast Conference (ECC) major awards for 2024-25. Sromovski and Brenneman were also voted All-ECC First Team, while Megan Hanaway and Shelby Wunch were Second Team picks. The major awards and all-conference teams were voted on by the conference's coaches and announced in conjunction with this weekend's ECC Women's Bowling Championship at Bowlero Berks Lanes in Sinking Spring. Sromovski, a senior, was a unanimous selection as the ECC Bowler of the Year after bowling in 95 percent of the team's frames and boasting an overall game average of 203.5 pins. Her 20.32 10th frame average was among the best in the nation, while the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., native recorded an 84.3 percent fill rate and traditional and baker averages over 200 pins on the year. The fourth-year kegler claimed conference Bowler of the Week honors three times this season (Oct. 10, Oct. 17 and Jan. 23) and was a frequent member on the ECC Weekly Honor Roll. First-year phenom Brenneman claimed the conference's Rookie of the Year honor in unanimous fashion after a stellar campaign that saw her emerge as a reliable option alongside Sromovski. The younger Brenneman sister boasted a team-best 83.7 percent baker fill percentage and 88.7 single pins spare percentage while trailing Sromovski with the second-best overall scoring average (19.74 pins) in the conference. The six-time ECC Rookie of the Week honoree bowled 90 percent of the team's frames this season. The Golden Bears flourished under fifth-year head coach Angela Reynolds, who claimed her first ECC Coach of the Year award after guiding the program to a 55-42 record ahead of this weekend's championship tournament. Kutztown found its way onto the radar of the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA), as it received votes in each of the last three top 25 polls while being ranked sixth in the February edition of the Division II/III poll. The tandem of Sromovski and Brenneman claimed two of the five spots on the All-ECC First Team, making KU the only team with multiple First Team honorees. Hanaway, a graduate student, and Wunch, a junior, each took All-ECC Second Team honors. Kutztown's four all-conference honorees were a league-best, ahead of Bryant's three. Molloy, Roberts Wesleyan and Saint Anselm each had two selections across the three all-conference teams. This marks the third time the Golden Bears have claimed all three major conference honors in a season and the first time since 2016. Sromovski becomes the first bowler in program history to be named all-conference in three straight seasons, and her third recognition ties her with Kayla Jones (2009, 2011-12) for the most in program history. Hanaway picked up her second career all-conference honor.

"The MEC is a very competitive conference, and I am looking forward to seeing the team fight for a spot in the Mountain East Conference Tournament and event finals. This is our first year with seniors that have spent all four years here at KU as part of the Acrobatics & Tumbling Team. It is bittersweet to watch them enter their final year of competition and see how much they have grown and improved over the years." Last season was successful for the Maroon and Gold as they finished with their best record to date at 6-3 overall and qualified their acro 5-element squad for the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) Event Finals. "It has been a dream come true to create a program here at Kutztown University," Paull said. "Each year the team has improved their overall team score, broken several event records, and been able to post consecutive winning seasons. I am eager to watch this team continue to grow and improve this season. We have high goals this year coming off last season's 6-3 record and our first national debut. "This is our fourth year as a program and our largest roster with 16 returning players and nine newcomers," said Paull. "We are eager to see our team work together on the mat and continue to lift each other up. Our team really focuses on the 'we' aspect of our sport as it is imperative that everyone supports one another to achieve our goals." Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), Dana Wentz (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Caroline McDonald (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) of the Kutztown University women's soccer team have earned the distinction of All-Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches (USC). The trio have all been here before, as it is the third time Curtis was named All-Region by the USC and second time for both Wentz and McDonald. Curtis is on the First Team, while Wentz and McDonald are on the Second Team. Curtis concluded a decorated career in Maroon and Gold as she was also tabbed to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division First Team and was a Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Atlantic Region First Teamer. She was a four-year starter for KU, starting every game of her career while leading a defensive unit that recorded nine shutouts on the season while contributing three goals and two assists in 2024. Her contributions were vital in a pair of victories over Charleston (W. Va.), scoring a goal in their early season victory at Keystone Field while sending in the game-winning tally to defeat the Golden Eagles in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship. Wentz was also a Second Team All-PSAC performer this season. The outside defender started all 23 games this season and started in 84 of her 85 games played in her career. Wentz scored her first career goal in a 3-1 victory over West Chester on Oct. 2. She is a three-time All-PSAC East performer. McDonald, on the USC All-Region Second Team for the second straight season, also earned First Team All-PSAC recognition in 2024 and has been All-PSAC in all three of her seasons in Maroon and Gold. She played in all 23 games this season, making 21 starts as a forward. McDonald finished with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Her 17 career assists ranks sixth all-time in program history. The Golden Bears capped off their season with a 12-5-6 record that included a pair of upset victories in the PSAC Championships and a 2-1 win over Charleston in the First Round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship.
