Comprising four colleges - Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Visual and Performing Arts - Kutztown University of Pennsylvania offers a wide range of outstanding academic programs to prepare individuals for successful careers.

Located on 289 acres, the campus is adjacent to the Borough of Kutztown in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Enrollment at the university includes 8,500 students from more than 20 states and nations. There are 362 tenured/tenure-track instructional faculty and boast a favorable 20:1 student-faculty ratio. Eighty-eight percent of KU faculty have doctorates or terminal degrees.

Kutztown University was founded in 1866 as Keystone Normal School.  The school became Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960 and achieved university status in 1983.

Kutztown University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Kutztown University Inducts Students into 2025 Class of Kappa Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society

The Kutztown University Department of Mathematics inducted students into Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society, at its annual induction ceremony. Kappa Mu Epsilon is a specialized honor society in Mathematics. KME was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. The chapters' members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship, have professional merit, and have attained academic distinction. Both men and women are eligible for membership.

Kutztown University Inducts 35 into 2025 Class of Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society for Counseling

Kutztown University inducted 35 students into the Chi Omega Upsilon chapter of the Chi Sigma Iota Honor Society for counseling at its induction ceremony this spring. Chi Sigma Iota is an international honor society for counseling students, professional counselors, and counselor educators. The society was established in 1985 by counseling professionals in the State of Ohio. Chi Sigma Iota's mission is to promote recognition to those in the counseling profession who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, research, and clinical practice. The members are dedicated to the counseling profession and the advancement of the profession. The Chi Omega Upsilon Chapter was a new Charter Chapter organized in 2017, with Deborah L. Duenyas, Ph.D. as chapter faculty advisor. Membership Eligibility for membership is extended only to those students at Kutztown University in the Counselor Education program who have completed nine credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better.

Kutztown University Chapter of Psi Chi Honor Society in Psychology Inducts 31 into 2024-25 Class

The Department of Psychology at Kutztown University hosted its annual Psi Chi Induction Ceremony Wednesday, April 16, 2025. The ceremony honored 31 new members, who were inducted into Psi Chi, The International Honor Society in Psychology. Psi Chi is the International Honor Society for psychology majors, with chapters around the globe. University students majoring or minoring in psychology and with a minimum of 3.0 GPA are eligible to join Psi Chi. Since 1992, the KU Chapter of Psi Chi has held events and biweekly meetings for its members and other psychology students. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings, where topics typically center around psychological research and graduate school. Psi Chi offers its new and ongoing members support programs for undergraduate, graduate, and faculty. Assistance with research projects and educational opportunities are available with membership. Members also receive valuable career resources and networking opportunities.

Kutztown University Athletics Inducts 2025 Class to Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society

The Kutztown University athletics department recognized 40 student-athletes Thursday afternoon, April 10, as a part of a new class of the Pennsylvania Alpha Omega Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma in the National College Athlete Honor Society. The luncheon recognized those student-athletes who excel in both the classroom and competition. Chi Alpha Sigma was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime. In order to be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must attend a four-year accredited college or university that is a member of the NCAA, NAIA, USCAA or NCCAA. The honoree also must achieve at least junior academic standing by the fifth semester or seventh quarter, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale).

Tau Sigma National Transfer Honor Society Inducts 45 into 2024 Class at Kutztown University

Kutztown University inducted 45 students into the Tau Sigma National Transfer Honor Society at its induction ceremony in April 2024. Tau Sigma was incorporated in 1999 at Auburn University and there are more than 175 chapters across the country. Tau Sigma National Honor Society is a growing, prestigious organization on KU's campus for transfer students. Established in 2016, the Eta Mu chapter is the third Tau Sigma chapter within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). This chapter has been recognizing transfer students who earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher in their first semester at KU.

Kutztown University Inducts Seven into Fall 2023 Class of Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society for Criminal Justice

Kutztown University inducted seven students into its Fall 2023 class of Alpha Phi Sigma, National Honor Society for Criminal Justice. The Kappa Alpha chapter of the Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma) was established at Kutztown University in 2008. University students majoring in Criminal Justice and with a minimum of 3.2 GPA are eligible to join the Criminal Justice Honor Society. The Criminal Justice Honor Society was established in 1942, and it has 550 chapters throughout the United States. Alphia Phi Sigma has been affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) since March 1976.

Kutztown University Announces Honors Students for 2023-2024

Kutztown University announced that 281 students will be part of the university's Honors Program in 2023-2024. The Honors Program at Kutztown University provides high-achieving students with opportunities to engage in scholarship, leadership and service. The program, which is undergraduate in nature and open to full-time students, is comprised of a minimum of 21 credits in Honors courses including a senior Honors capstone project. The 21 Honors credits count toward the students' minimum of 120 credits that are regularly required for graduation. Honors students select specially designed Honors courses, course-by-contracts, independent studies and internships to earn Honors credit. Kutztown University Inducts 16 into 2023 Class of Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society in Sociology

Kutztown University inducted 16 new members into the Alpha Epsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society, at its annual induction ceremony this past spring. Alpha Kappa Delta is a non-secret, democratic, international society of scholars dedicated to the ideal of Athropon Katamannthanein Diakonesin or "to investigate humanity for the purpose of service." Membership is open to undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty members from active chapters who meet our minimum standards. Currently, there are more than 115,000 members in Alpha Kappa Delta and more than 650 chapters.

Kutztown University Inducts Three into 2023 Class of Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society

Kutztown University inducted three students into its 2023 class of Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society at its annual induction ceremony this spring. The Kutztown University Chapter (Xi of PA) of the Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society provides an opportunity to recognize the academic achievements of students in the Anthropology Program. Lambda Alpha honors outstanding academic achievement in anthropology. Graduation regalia, including stoles and pins, can be purchased from Lambda Alpha to symbolize this honor. Lambda Alpha offers a national scholarship worth $5000 to be awarded to a graduating senior majoring in anthropology, as well as awards for outstanding student papers. Lambda Alpha maintains a journal that provides an opportunity for students to share their work with a national audience. To join the Xi of Pennsylvania Chapter of Lambda Alpha, undergraduate students must be a junior or senior, have completed at least 12 semester hours of course work in anthropology (which can include no more than six semester hours in sociology), have an anthropology GPA of at least 3.0 and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

Kutztown University Inducts 10 into Alpha Epsilon Lambda Honor Society for Graduate and Professional Students for Spring 2023

Kutztown University inducted 10 students into its 2023 class of Alpha Epsilon Lambda, National Honor Society for Graduate and Professional Students, at its annual induction ceremony April 4. Kutztown University is the home of the Gamma Chapter of Alpha Epsilon Lambda. This chapter marked the founding of the first honor society solely for graduate students in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The mission of the organization is to confer distinction for high achievement, promote leadership development, promote scholarship and encourage intellectual development, enrich the intellectual environment of graduate institutions and encourage high standards of ethical behavior. Graduate students seeking membership in the Gamma Chapter at Kutztown University must have completed a minimum of 12 graduate semester hours, attain a graduate quality point average in the upper 35 percent of all graduate students currently enrolled at the university and provide a record of leadership and service to the campus and the community.

To qualify for membership, a student: - Must have completed at least three semesters of college-level mathematics; - Must have completed at least three mathematics courses at the MAT 181 level or above; - Must have an overall GPA at Kutztown University of at least 0; and, - Must have a GPA for all the mathematics courses above MAT 181 taken (at KU) of at least 3.0.

Kutztown University inducted 37 new members into the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology at its annual induction ceremony this spring. Psi Chi is the International Honor Society for Psychology majors, with chapters around the globe. The KU Chapter of Psi Chi holds biweekly meetings and plans other events for its members and other psychology students. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings, where topics typically center around psychological research and graduate school. The Kutztown University Chapter of Psi Chi is open to all students who meet the following KU Chapter qualifications for active student membership: Completion of at least 36 credits for undergraduates, 12 of which were taken at Kutztown University; 15 credits for graduate students. Completion of 9 semester hours of Psychology taken at KU. Declaration of a major or minor in psychology. An overall cumulative GPA and a minimum GPA in psychology of 3.30 for undergraduates; 3.75 for graduate students. High standards of personal behavior. Two-thirds affirmative vote of those present at a regular meeting of the chapter.

Kutztown University Inducts Students into Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society

Kutztown University recently inducted students into its chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda honor society. The mission of Alpha Sigma Lambda is to be an honor society that partners colleges and universities to celebrate the scholarship and leadership of adult students in higher education. Inductees into the Kappa Upsilon or the KU chapter of ASL must have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA and have successfully completed at least 24 credits at Kutztown University. Alpha Sigma Lambda is not only the oldest, but also the largest, chapter-based honor society for full and part-time adult students who are pursuing their undergraduate degrees. The aim of the ASL is to provide recognition to highly motivated adult students who are continuing their undergraduate education while managing the responsibilities of work and family.

Kutztown University holds Csi-Chi Omega Upsilon Honor Soceity Induction Ceremony

Kutztown University's chapter of Chi Sigma Iota - Chi Omega Upsilon hosted an induction ceremony of new initiates Friday, April 10. The chapter was grateful to create a wonderful ceremony via Zoom for students and faculty to attend. During this ceremony, Chi Sigma Iota - Chi Omega Upsilon added 42 new members to their growing chapter. It also presented outstanding awards to the following students: Heidi Kelly (Outstanding Clinical Mental Health Counselor Award), Cesar Velasquez (Outstanding School Counselor Award), Megan Deptula (Outstanding Marriage, Couples and Family Counselor Award) and Cori White (Outstanding Alumni Award). Kutztown University Announces Sesquicentennial Academic Honors Scholarship Recipients for 2019-2020

Kutztown University has awarded 58 Sesquicentennial Academic Honors Scholarships for the 2019-2020 academic year. Sesquicentennial Academic Honors Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who have a 3.25 cumulative weighted high school GPA and a 1410 total on the SAT or 31 composite on the ACT. The student will receive $7,000 per year for four years as long as the student participates in the Honors Program, lives on campus for the first three years and completes a minimum of 30 credits per year. KU's Honors program requires students to complete a minimum of 21 credits of honors coursework, maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25, complete 30 hours of community service by graduation, complete living and learning events, attend one Work in Progress Session (WIPS) and complete a capstone or senior honors thesis project.
