Comprising four colleges - Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Visual and Performing Arts - Kutztown University of Pennsylvania offers a wide range of outstanding academic programs to prepare individuals for successful careers.

Located on 289 acres, the campus is adjacent to the Borough of Kutztown in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Enrollment at the university includes 8,500 students from more than 20 states and nations. There are 362 tenured/tenure-track instructional faculty and boast a favorable 20:1 student-faculty ratio. Eighty-eight percent of KU faculty have doctorates or terminal degrees.

Kutztown University was founded in 1866 as Keystone Normal School.  The school became Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960 and achieved university status in 1983.

Kutztown University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Cross Country Names 2016 Team Captains

CJ Bauer and Steve Maine will join Brian Taylor as tri-captains of the 2016 Kutztown University men's cross country team. On the women's side, 2015 captains Kimberly Katzgrau and Olivia Dettore will return to their leadership roles in 2016 as the Kutztown University women's cross country team has announced captains for the upcoming season.

Track & Field Programs Earn Team and Individual Academic Honors from Coaches Association

The Kutztown University track & field programs earned team and individual academic awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2015-16 season on Thursday. The women's track & field team earned an All-Academic Team award for holding a 3.29 GPA last year. On the women's side, seniors Corinne Manela and Emma Sullivan and sophomore Macey Tanseco earned All-Academic status. Brandon Raguz represented the men's team with an All-Academic award.

A quartet of Golden Bears will lead the Kutztown University field hockey team this year as the squad has announced its captains for the 2016 season. Seniors Courtney Ueberroth and Megan Tiwold will be joined by juniors Courtney Konowal and Chardonnay Hope as KU attempts to build off a 2015 campaign that saw the Golden Bears host their first playoff game in school history.

Kutztown University Announces Degrees

Kutztown University has conferred degrees on nearly 1,500 students during the winter and spring terms. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish their requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The following students have been awarded degrees since the winter 2016 announcement. Students who have requested privacy (FERPA) are not listed publicly.

Ann Moschorak of Scranton, Pa., has been awarded the Bennett Harris Humorous Writing Award by the Department of English at Kutztown University. Funded by a trust in honor of the late Bennett Harris, Professor of English, this award goes to the writer of the most humorous fiction or nonfiction work.

Bethany Tirrell has been awarded a Pennsylvania Space Grant Consortium Undergraduate Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to full-time students attending an accredited Pennsylvania college or university with outstanding academic records who will be juniors or seniors in fall 2016. Students must be U.S. citizens, enrolled in science, engineering, or mathematics and likely to pursue a career in an area of interest to NASA with demonstrated potential for graduate study.

Aaron Hardenstine has been named the recipient of the 2016 Anthony J. Mazzaferri Award at Kutztown University. The Anthony J. Mazzaferri scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior history major, history with paralegal major or a secondary education/social studies major with good academic standing. This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Anthony J. Mazzaferri, former professor of history, by Dr. Annette Mazzaferri, wife and emerita professor of speech and theatre.

The Kutztown University men's basketball team has chosen three senior student-athletes to be team captains for the upcoming 2016-17 season, to lead the Golden Bears to another hopeful division title-winning, and NCAA Tournament-bound season. Men's Relay Team Wins PSAC Title

Kutztown University's men's 4x800m relay team made history for the second straight year at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Last year, a school-record was set. Saturday, that record was broken again in a title-winning run at Mansfield University. The quartet of Naeb Mengisteab, Devonte King, Andrew Thompson and Jared Luckanitz turned in the best relay of their careers.
