The Kutztown University Student Affairs in Higher Education Graduate Program inducted 15 new members into the Tau Chapter of Chi Sigma Alpha Student Affairs Honor Society International on Tuesday, April 5.

The Department of Political Science & Public Administration of Kutztown University inducted three new members into the Rho Psi Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha National Honor Society in Political Science and Public Administration at a reception on Friday, April 8. Members must be in the top one-third of the class.

Kutztown University inducted 27 new members into the Alpha Sigma Lambda honor society on Saturday, April 9. Inductees are adult students who have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA and have successfully completed at least 24 credits at Kutztown University.

Kutztown University students Rob Pallett and Ike Okorji won first place in the "Berks' Got Talent" competition held at Reading Area Community College. It is the first time KU has won the competition in its 10-year history. Best friends since their freshmen year, Okorji and Pallett, performed vocals and on guitar to defeat musicians and performers from Albright, Alvernia, Penn State Berks, Penn State Schuylkill and RACC. Both are frequent participants at Open Mic Nights, KUsic and other talent shows.

Kutztown University Special Education senior Jessica Kolvites has been selected by the Division on Visual Impairments and Deafblindness to receive the Virginia M. Sowell Student of the Year Award. The award is given to a student who the organization feels demonstrates a commitment to the education and/or rehabilitation of individuals with visual impairments and deafblindness.

Christopher Erthal of Bethlehem is working for the Joint State Government Commission as part of a 15-week internship sponsored by Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. Erthal is a senior psychology major at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. He is one of 16 students participating in The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) program, which provides students the opportunity to work in all areas of state government while earning a full semester's worth of credits.

Kutztown University has conferred degrees on more than 540 students during the summer and fall terms. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish the requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The following students have been awarded degrees since the summer 2015 announcement. Students who have requested privacy (FERPA) are not listed publicly.

More than 1,650 students have been named to the Fall 2015 Dean's List at Kutztown University. To be eligible for Dean's List, an undergraduate student must be registered for at least 12 credits and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60.

Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, president of Kutztown University, today presented the first ever President's Citation. The award was given to Ryan Baron, a biology/pre-med major from Garwood, N.J. Baron recently completed his sophomore year as an offensive lineman for the Golden Bear football team. Baron received the President's Citation for his heroic actions on Monday, August 24, the first day of fall classes at Kutztown University, that led to his saving the life of a fellow classmate.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is proud to announce the recipients of a 2015 Love of Learning Award from Session B of the program. The awards help fund post-baccalaureate studies and career development for active Phi Kappa Phi members.

The Kutztown University Visual Arts Program (KUVA) has been invited to participate in the 39th annual Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) Craft Show, held Nov. 12 - 15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Kutztown is one of only four colleges in the country and the only public school invited to participate. This is the fourth consecutive year KU has been invited to attend.

Brooke May Named PSAC Women's Soccer Co-Athlete of the Week

The Kutztown University Marching Unit (KUMU) has been selected as one of 17 bands to appear in the 2015 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 26, beginning at 8:30 a.m. With 150 members, KUMU is one of two bands from Pennsylvania and the only collegiate band in the parade. Now in its 96th year, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade is the oldest Thanksgiving parade in the nation. The 1.4-mile parade route ends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Senior goalkeeper Kayla Denlinger, Manheim, Pa., of the Kutztown University field hockey team was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Field Hockey Athlete of the Week by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Kutztown University students Jessica Morrow and Liza Parker, on behalf of the university's Sociology department, were selected to attend this year's annual American Sociological Association Honors Program.

Junior wideout Kellen Williams (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) hauled in 10 catches for a career-high 219 receiving yards in the Kutztown University football team's come-from-behind, 34-33 victory at Indiana University (PA) on Saturday, earning him this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Offensive Athlete of the Week.

Senior Anna Behm of the Kutztown University field hockey team led the Golden Bears to a 2-0 record last week after recording hat-tricks in each game, earning her this season's first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Field Hockey Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office.

Dan J. Noon of Ashland, Pa., is working in the Office of House Democratic Whip Michael Hanna, D-Lock Haven, as part of a 15-week internship sponsored by Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education.

The Kutztown University women's sevens rugby team is set to return to the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship at PPL Park, Philadelphia, May 29-31. This will be the third straight appearance for the Golden Bears in the tournament. On Friday, May 29, the women will face the University of Arizona, Life University and Notre Dame College in pool play. The schedule for the remainder of the weekend will depend on the outcome of Friday's games.

The Kutztown University men's sevens rugby team will look to avenge their 2014 final round loss when they return to the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship at PPL Park, Philadelphia, May 30-31. This will be the third straight appearance for the Golden Bears in the tournament.

Kutztown University inducted 15 into the Alpha Epsilon chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta, the International Sociology Honor Society. Alpha Kappa Delta is a non-secret, democratic, international society of scholars dedicated to the ideal of Athropon Katamannthanein Diakonesin or "to investigate humanity for the purpose of service." Membership is open to undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty members from active chapters who meet our minimum standards. Currently, there are more than 115,000 members in Alpha Kappa Delta and over 650 chapters.

Kutztown University has inducted 45 graduate and undergraduate students in to the Phi Alpha National Honor Society for Social Work. Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work.

The Kutztown University Chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society has inducted 14 new members. Alpha Phi Sigma recognizes academic excellence of undergraduate and graduate students of Criminal Justice, as well as Juris Doctorate students.

Thirty-four students at Kutztown University have been inducted in to the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Alpha Sigma Lambda's aim is to recognize the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work.

Kutztown University has honored 21 students with the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges award. Honorees were selected based upon criteria in the following categories: academic achievement, leadership involvement, commitment to volunteer efforts, and commitment to social action. Honorees must have a cumulative grade point average above a 3.25 and a minimum of 75 credits to be considered.

Thomas Bond is the recipient of the Copper Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award. The award is one of the most prestigious honors given at Kutztown University.
