Comprising four colleges - Business, Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences and Visual and Performing Arts - Kutztown University of Pennsylvania offers a wide range of outstanding academic programs to prepare individuals for successful careers.

Located on 289 acres, the campus is adjacent to the Borough of Kutztown in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Enrollment at the university includes 8,500 students from more than 20 states and nations. There are 362 tenured/tenure-track instructional faculty and boast a favorable 20:1 student-faculty ratio. Eighty-eight percent of KU faculty have doctorates or terminal degrees.

Kutztown University was founded in 1866 as Keystone Normal School.  The school became Kutztown State Teachers College in 1928, Kutztown State College in 1960 and achieved university status in 1983.

Kutztown University is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

The award is granted each year to two graduates of our program who have distinguished themselves academically, while making important contributions to the department, University and community.

Kutztown University Inducts New Members into Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society

The Kutztown University Department of Criminal Justice inducted 28 new members into the Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society. Alpha Phi Sigma is the national criminal justice honor society. It was founded in 1942 at Washington State University and became affiliated with the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS) in 1976. Today there are almost 300 Alpha Phi Sigma chapters around the country. KU's Kappa Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma was established in Spring 2008 with 13 founding members. The chapter advisors are Dr. Pietro Toggia and the assistant advisor is Dr. AnnMarie Cordner. To be eligible for membership, a student must be a criminal justice major or minor, have completed at least 40 credit hours, including at least four criminal justice courses, have an overall QPA of 3.2 or higher, and have a QPA in criminal justice courses of 3.2 or higher.

Kutztown University Inducts Eleven into Sigma Delta Pi National Hispanic Honor Society

Eleven Spanish majors and minors were inducted into the Kutztown University chapter of Sigma Delta Pi National Hispanic Honor Society, on April 11. Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica), was established on November 14, 1919, at the University of California Berkeley. The national headquarters is located at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

Joseph Coco Named First Presser Scholar at Kutztown University

Kutztown University Department of Music has announced Joseph Coco of Topton, Pa., as the first Presser Scholar at Kutztown University. Funded through a grant from The Presser Foundation, the Presser Scholar is awarded to an outstanding music student finishing his or her junior year and at least one-third of the student's credits over four years must be outside the field of music.

Okorji and Pallet Berks Got Talent Champions

Kutztown University students Rob Pallett and Ike Okorji won first place in the "Berks' Got Talent" competition held at Reading Area Community College. It is the first time KU has won the competition in its 10-year history. Best friends since their freshmen year, Okorji and Pallett, performed vocals and on guitar to defeat musicians and performers from Albright, Alvernia, Penn State Berks, Penn State Schuylkill and RACC. Both are frequent participants at Open Mic Nights, KUsic and other talent shows.

KU Senior Jessica Kolvites Named Sowell Student of the Year

Kutztown University Special Education senior Jessica Kolvites has been selected by the Division on Visual Impairments and Deafblindness to receive the Virginia M. Sowell Student of the Year Award. The award is given to a student who the organization feels demonstrates a commitment to the education and/or rehabilitation of individuals with visual impairments and deafblindness.

Erthal Selected for Harrisburg Internship Semester

Christopher Erthal of Bethlehem is working for the Joint State Government Commission as part of a 15-week internship sponsored by Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education. Erthal is a senior psychology major at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. He is one of 16 students participating in The Harrisburg Internship Semester (THIS) program, which provides students the opportunity to work in all areas of state government while earning a full semester's worth of credits.

Kutztown University Announces Degrees

Kutztown University has conferred degrees on more than 540 students during the summer and fall terms. Kutztown University announces degree conferment twice a year, once in the winter and once in the summer. Commencement exercises are held in May and December; however, students finish the requirements for graduation throughout the entire year. The following students have been awarded degrees since the summer 2015 announcement. Students who have requested privacy (FERPA) are not listed publicly.

Ryan Baron Presented President's Citation

Dr. Kenneth Hawkinson, president of Kutztown University, today presented the first ever President's Citation. The award was given to Ryan Baron, a biology/pre-med major from Garwood, N.J. Baron recently completed his sophomore year as an offensive lineman for the Golden Bear football team. Baron received the President's Citation for his heroic actions on Monday, August 24, the first day of fall classes at Kutztown University, that led to his saving the life of a fellow classmate.

The Kutztown University Visual Arts Program (KUVA) has been invited to participate in the 39th annual Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) Craft Show, held Nov. 12 - 15 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Kutztown is one of only four colleges in the country and the only public school invited to participate. This is the fourth consecutive year KU has been invited to attend.

Kutztown University Marching Unit Selected for Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Kutztown University Marching Unit (KUMU) has been selected as one of 17 bands to appear in the 2015 Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday, Nov. 26, beginning at 8:30 a.m. With 150 members, KUMU is one of two bands from Pennsylvania and the only collegiate band in the parade. Now in its 96th year, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade is the oldest Thanksgiving parade in the nation. The 1.4-mile parade route ends at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
